NATO: Washington cedes commands of Naples and Norfolk to Europeans

The United States is due to relinquish command of NATO forces in Naples and Norfolk, continuing its gradual withdrawal in favour of its European allies. But Washington will assume command of maritime forces - MARCOM - and retain supreme command of allied forces in Europe - SACEUR - thus maintaining control over the strategic direction of the Alliance.
