Paris ready to slam the door in Berlin's face over the defence budget
Berlin's attempts to undermine the "European preference" clause in defence contracts are prompting Paris to consider a Plan B should negotiations on the European Union's multiannual budget fail. In the utmost secrecy, the French government is preparing to abandon the Commission and rely on a few allied countries, according to a strategy spearheaded by the Directorate-General for Armaments.
